Bobble Heads

You know those people that constantly nod their heads in agreement or recognition to something they’re being told? The ones in front of you when you’re listening to a lecture, in a class, at a speech, attending some sort of event or panel. And they just nod their head incessantly to whatever the speaker is saying. Because they already know and agree with everything and should be up there on that panel preachin’ their god damn wisdom?

Yea. Fuck those people.

I fear there are little gnomes living under the porch stealing all my mail.

I’m not going to lay down in words the lure of this place. Every great writer in the land, from Faulkner to Twain to Rice to Ford has tried to do it and fallen short. It is impossible to capture the essence, tolerance, and spirit of south Louisiana in words and to try is to roll down a road of cliches, bouncing over beignets and beads and brass bands and it just is what it is. It is home.

Someone commented on one of my covers saying I “should go on the Voice or Britain’s Got Talent or even the X Factor” and my heart saaaaannnk
Like, I get that it was intended as a compliment, but it just showed a really misguided perspective of the conventional means for achieving success and that’s… actually kind of worrying to think about?

First thing that game to mind.
